BT and the UK Government are upgrading the landline phone network from analogue to digital. This national switchover is already underway and will be completed by January 2027.
As a result, some telecare devices that rely on traditional landlines may stop working unless updated.
What’s Changing?
The old Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) is being phased out because it’s outdated. Phone and internet services are moving to digital (internet-based) connections.
How to Tell If You Have a Landline Alarm
If your alarm has a base unit plugged into a telephone wall socket, it’s a landline alarm. This includes models like the VI+, LLConnect, Lifeline 400, Reach, and similar legacy devices.
If your personal alarm doesn’t connect to a telephone wall socket via a base unit, then you’re already using a digital alarm.
The devices shown here use digital technology and will continue to work reliably during and after the digital switchover. If you have one of our GPS devices, these are also digital and unaffected.
Devices Not Affected by the Switchover
The following units already operate using digital technology and will continue to function as normal:
These devices are fully compatible with the digital network—no action is required.
